In collaboration with our partner EHRA (Elephant-Human Relations Aid), we offer an AMES exclusive week in the plains of Namibia. Tracking elephants, experiencing wide areas of untouched nature, and seeing incredible sunrises and sunsets - all while helping EHRA to protect wild elephants hands-on.
A typical Week...
Itinerary
This trip is starting on a Wednesday. From Europe, we recommend to take an overnight flight, arriving either to Windhoek Int. Airport or directly to Walvis Bay on Wednesday morning. We will greet you there, pick you up and ensure a safe transfer to the camp/reserve. For anyone who arrives one day earlier, we can organize a hotel in Windhoek or Walvis Bay. If no other travel is planned after the week, there are typically daily night flights back to Europe.

Pickup on arrival at Walvis Bay or latest at around 11am in Windhoek and transit to EHRA camp
For the following three nights we will sleep wild under the stars for those who wish in various remote locations. During the day we will track and learn about the elephants that EHRA aims to protect. This will be a mixture of on foot and vehicle based tracking. We will also meet community members that live side byside and understand the challenges they face. We will also visit EHRA projects, including a primary school and farms that have received solar water pumping installations.
Transit back to Walvis Bay or Windhoek Airport; in time for late afternoon or evening flight.

If travel is allowed and justifiable at the time, we are offering the following dates for the wildlife experience in 2022:

Pricing Overview
Costs are subject to change but will be confirmed in writing at the time of booking. Rates are calculated closely to the actual cost occurring. All potential overhead of every booking goes to AMES and EHRA for its conservation projects, supporting the protection of the land, wildlife and local communities. Daily rates are not applicable, as this is a full week trip only.

Frequently asked questions
Will there be “free” time?
Yes, there are deliberate times in the agenda to allow for flexible and individual planning on the first and last day.
Is there internet and cellphone reception?
There is reception - though it is weak and partially unreliable. 3G cell reception is the only internet available, too. During our time in the desert there will be NO signal.
Can you arrive later or leave earlier?
No, as this is a full week trip only, we have fixed dates.
What equipment is needed?
We will share a detailed packing recommendation list 10-14 days before departure.
Do I need to take Malaria precautions?
Malaria is a risk in some parts of Namibia, not so much in the Damaraland area. We still recommend you fill your malaria prescription before you leave and take enough with you for the entire length of your trip. Follow your doctor's instructions for taking the pills; some need to be started before you leave.
